Guide only guided trek - not a commercialised tour company

What “Guide Only” Means
Hike with Maree is a small, guide-led Carnarvon Great Walk experience — not a commercial tour operation. Maree’s role is to guide the route, manage safety, pacing, weather decisions, camps, and carry emergency equipment. Each hiker is responsible for their own gear, food, clothing, and pack, including hired equipment. If your tent or mattress fails, it is your responsibility to repair or manage it — Hike with Maree does not provide porter services or carry spare gear. Spare tents and mattresses will be available at Westbranch Camp, but if something fails before or after Westbranch, you may need to manage with what you have until you reach support. I’m a grandma, not a pack mule — preparation and gear checks are essential prior arrival. Please pack some repair items for you tent poles, tent and mattress; ask chat GPT what to buy for your brand of gear.

Treat all of your gear with care. Avoid sitting on your backpack, as it can damage the frame and the contents inside. Protect your sleeping mattress by placing it on a foam mat or a car sunshade inside your tent. Looking after your equipment helps ensure it lasts for the entire trek—and many adventures to come.

Tent Pole Breaks – What to Carry

A broken tent pole doesn't have to end your trip. Pack a lightweight repair kit:

  • One aluminium repair sleeve (splint) matched to your tent pole diameter.

  • Around 50 cm of duct tape wrapped around a trekking pole or water bottle.

  • A spare pole ferrule (if your tent uses them).

  • A short length of replacement shock cord.

This complete repair kit weighs well under 50 g and can save your shelter—and your hike.

Tip: Before buying a repair sleeve, measure your tent pole's outside diameter. Common sizes are 8.5 mm, 9.5 mm, 11 mm, and 13 mm. A sleeve that's too large won't hold securely, while one that's too small won't fit over the pole.
